On March 15th, there will be a Microsoft Dev Camp event hosted by MIC (Microsoft Innovation Center) Torino, like the ones organized in other Italian cities.

Events are free and represent a great opportunity to meet other developers and have fun by developing Windows Azure, Windows Phone, Windows 8 applications, with the exclusive support by Microsoft experts and Community members (especially, in Turin, with the support of BEPS Engineering and TTG - Torino Technologies Group).

As announced, today Microsoft released the Windows Phone 8 SDK!

It consists of a full-featured development environment to use for building apps and games for Windows Phone 8.0 and Windows Phone 7.5. The Windows Phone SDK provides a stand-alone Visual Studio Express 2012 Edition for Windows Phone or works as an add-in to Visual Studio 2012 Professional, Premium or Ultimate.

With the SDK, it is possible to use levearage existing programming skills and code to build managed or native code apps. In addition, the SDK includes multiple emulators and additional tools for profiling and testing your Windows Phone app under real-world conditions.

To run the emulator Windows 8 Pro x64 edition and a processor that supports Second Level Address Translation (SLAT) are required. If a computer does not meet the requirements for the Windows Phone 8 Emulator, the SDK will install and run, however the Windows Phone 8 Emulator will not work and developers won't be able to deploy or test apps on the Emulator.

Yesterday Microsoft officially launched Windows Phone 8. We already knew a lot of the new features and capabilities of the new OS, but a number of them have been introduced just at the keynote in San Francisco:

• Live Apps (Lock Screen notifications)
  Microsoft has added the ability to set any app that uses push notifications to notify you straight to the lock screen from where you can unlock direct to that app.

Yesterday has been a great day for Microsoft and the Embedded community.

Visual Studio 2012 has been officially launched and it has been confirmed that the next version of Windows Embedded Compact will be fully integrated. It will also include a new version of Microsoft .NET Compact Framework (3.9), with performance improvements and a number of additional features, and will bring support for C++ 11.

On Colin Miller's blog appeared a blog post about Visual Studio Express 2012 for Desktop and its .NET Micro Framework 4.3 support, which will be soon released.

Microsoft also released a new preview of Windows Embedded Standard 8 (WES8 CTP3).

Tomorrow evening, as every month, there will be the Torino Technologies Group (TTG) community event, hosted in Microsoft Innovation Center Torino (Italy).

Together with my colleague Marco Bodoira, I will talk about the upcoming Windows Phone 8 (announced on June 20th) and will share my experience on developing a Windows 8 Metro-style application, which entered the Italian Windows 8 App Hall of Fame.

A few hours ago Microsoft announced the next version of Windows Phone, at the Windows Phone Summit event in San Francisco.

Many (but not all) interesting features have been announced:

• fall 2012 release: new devices by major OEM manifacturers
• for developers, new SDK later this summer

On June 15th there will be a new Start Something! Tour event in Turin, hosted and organized by Microsoft, in collaboration with TTG - Torino Technologies Group community. As did in the previous event held in March, it will be an open day for people who want to write and test their applications on Windows Phone devices (in collaboration with Nokia) or Series 5/Series 7 Tablets and Notebooks with Windows 8 (in collaboration with Samsung).

My colleague Marco and I will be lab assistants to the workshop held by Lorenzo Barbieri, Italian Windows 8 and Windows Phone Developer Evangelist.
